What's the weather like in Barcelona in January?

Flying Fluskey January in Barcelona is distinctly off-season. However, despite it being the dead of winter, you will find pleasant temperatures at 9 - 15°C. With only 4 rainy days, there is still plenty of sunshine to enjoy and if you catch the high temperature out of the wind, it can actually feel quite warm. On a cruise around the Mediterranean, Barcelona had by far the most agreeable weather. Answered by Flying Fluskey

What should I pack for a holiday in Barcelona in January?

Flying Fluskey A light jacket and a few warm accessories would be a good plan. I found a spring coat, pair of gloves and scarf was just fine for the chilly mornings and evenings. Cardigans and other handy layers that you can whip off or pop on will make your day a lot nicer. It may be January, and it may be Europe, but it is still a good idea to pop some sun cream on your face and chest if it is exposed. Especially if the wind is blowing, you might forget that you are still out in the sun. You will also want some sunglasses, the lower angle of the sun can be right in your eyes! Answered by Flying Fluskey

What's great about Barcelona in January?

Flying Fluskey As January is off-season for Barcelona, you will find it at its least crowded. There are no long lines for Sagreda Familia or other supremely popular attractions. We zipped around, sightseeing for a day and managed to see everything we wanted without standing in a single queue. It was sunny and fantastic fun. We didn't stay in the vity, but it is nice to know that accommodation prices are at their lowest in January. Plus, as this is a living city, things aren't shut due to the slower tourist numbers. That cosy tapas spot is still hopping but it is full of locals instead! Answered by Flying Fluskey

What's the temperature like in Barcelona during January?

January is typically the coolest month in Barcelona. The temperature reaches around 13℃ during the daytime, falling away to 7℃ at night. The UV index will be moderate at this time of year, so not something to worry about for the average person. However, if you're going to be outside for long periods it's worth wearing a broad spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen and UV-blocking sunglasses. Remember that bright surfaces, such as water and sand increase UV exposure.

Does it rain in Barcelona during January?

On average, there will be 3 rainy days during the month, amounting to 58.7mm in total. That's broadly comparable with the amount of rain we see in England during the summer months, and would be considered dry. There's a small chance that you'll catch a thunderstorm during your trip.

Is it windy in Barcelona during January?

You're unlikely to experience any strong winds. Expect a light breeze that picks up slightly at times in January. With moderate humidity, the wind will feel chilly, so you'll want to wear layers.

Is it too cold to swim in the sea in Barcelona during January?

The water around Barcelona is a bracing 14℃ during January and would be considered too cold for swimming. Those who are a bit more hardy or frequently swim in cooler open water might want to take a quick dip. A wetsuit would be advisable if you wish to spend longer than 5 minutes in the water.
