What's the weather like in Reykjavik during February?
We spent five days in Reykjavik in early February. When we arrived, the whole town was under a thick layer of snow and lake Tjörnin in the city centre was completely frozen. Temperatures hovered just below freezing for the first two days, and the wind was biting. The temperature increased over the next two days to well above freezing, and the snow was completely gone by the time we left for the airport.

What should I pack for a break in Reykjavik during February?
Cold weather gear is essential. Good boots (trainers are a nightmare on icy pavements!), thermal underwear, hats and gloves are a must. An evening chasing the Northern Lights can get very cold indeed! One thing I wish I'd had was crampons for my boots. Visiting waterfalls and glaciers during winter means you'll encounter sheet ice on a regular basis!

Whats's great about Reykjavik during February?
In February, you'll stand a pretty good chance of seeing the Northern Lights (although I confess, I didn't!). It's also a perfect time to take a dip in a thermal pool. Don't be put off by the cold - the water is extremely warm and you won't feel cold at all. There are few things more wonderful than bathing in hot thermal waters while the snow falls around you.
