What should I pack for a holiday in Venice during August?
Pack light, cotton clothing and flat shoes - you'll be doing a lots of steps as you explore Venice. If you want to visit St Mark’s Basilica or other churches you'll need trousers or a skirt to cover your knees and a t-shirt that covers your shoulders. Also bring a small back pack that you can load with a water flask. It's not permitted to eat your own picnic while exploring Venice but you will need a drink of water in the hottest of months to visit.

August is the top time to visit Venice if you like to people watch. It's brimming with tourists (not so much residents as they leave for their holidays now). But don't be put off. It's going to be hot during the day in August, and balmy in the evenings, so pack light - think t-shirts, very light shirts, shorts, dresses. Good shoes are an absolute must, as there is so much walking in Venice! Don't forget your swimming gear, as the sea water is bath-like making a trip to Lido island a must!

August is typically the hottest month in Venice. The temperature hits about 29℃ during the day, falling away to a balmy 21℃ at night.The UV index will be high at this time of year, so protection against skin and eye damage is needed. Try to limit exposure between 10am and 4pm. Apply broad spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen every few hours, even if it's cloudy, or more frequently after sweating or swimming, and wear UV-blocking sunglasses too, and bear in mind that bright surfaces, such as sand and water increase UV exposure.
