About Basilicata

Basilicata is a region of Italy that is truly breathtaking. With its rugged mountain ranges, deep-green forests and dizzying gorges, it's no wonder that it's home to the Unesco-listed Matera, where houses are built into and above natural caves at the edge of a gorge. For those looking for a beach holiday, Basilicata has some of the most picturesque coastline in the country. Close to the town of Maratea, the Tyrrhenian Sea is lapped by black sand beaches, with towns perched on wooded hills and buildings in pale sherbet colours. Near Metaponto, you can also find spectacular ancient ruins and more lovely beaches. For a holiday that feels like a well-kept secret, holidays to Basilicata are a wonderful choice.

25th October 2022 by TravelDave

Did you know that Basilicata is the second least visited region in Italy? Not only this, but my adventure to Basilicata won’t even be taking me to the most popular tourist spots in one of the least visited regions of Italy. The idea of the Viaggio Italiano trip is to discover nine remote Borghi Italiani across the region of Basilicata across the three provinces of Maratea, Venosa and Aliano....
