About Liguria

Liguria is a stunning part of Italy, located just up the way from the famous Cote D'Azur. Its long stretch of coastline is home to some of the most beautiful Blue-Flag beaches in the country, and the perfect spot for a seaside getaway. Its towns have a relaxed, sophisticated atmosphere, with piazzas, cobbled streets and café's lining the harbour, and yachts bobbing up and down on the water. The Cinque Terre area is a great spot for a walking challenge, with stunning views of the glistening sea-scape. You can also explore the Portofino Natural Park, with rustic farmhouses dotted about, and farmers going about their everyday work. Genoa, the capital of Liguria, is a great place to visit, with its historic old town, intricate alleyways and boutique shops. Plus, it shares the St George's cross flag with England, which you'll see flying all over the city. San Remo is also worth a visit, with its lively reputation, oldest casino in Italy and annual San Remo music festival. And of course, you'll be spoilt for choice with delicious food and drink. From focaccia e formaggio to creamy gelato, Liguria's street food is not to be missed. Plus, the Cinque Terre area is full of vineyards, and you might even spot a trenino, a little train that farmers use to travel through the vines during harvest.

Walking from Portofino to San Fruttuoso

13th October 2015 by Emma's Travel Tales

During our trip to Italy we knew definitely wanted to visit Portofino, the next town along the coastline from where we were staying in Santa Margherita. We’d also heard that the small town just beyond Portofino was also beautiful, so we decided to visit both in one day. My family and I hopped on the ferry boat in the morning and within 45 minutes we were pulling into San Fruttuoso bay. The water was a gorgeous turquoise colour and we quickly realised San Fruttuoso was little more than a very...
