Never heard of Guadeloupe? Well, we have to admit that the team here aren't overly familiar with the French Caribbean islands either.

The setting for the BBC's Death in Paradise, Guadeloupe, in the Lesser Antilles, is an archipelago of 5 islands; the two largest islands resemble a butterfly. Think picture perfect Caribbean: long sandy beaches, crystal clear blue sea, sugarcane fields, a volcano, and incredible wildlife. In the tv series it was known as St Marie.

Guadeloupe is a French-speaking country which uses the Euro as its main currency. It has a total population of only around 410,000. Its capital, Basse-Terre, is mountainous and covered with luxurious tropical rainforest, home to the Guadeloupe National Park, and topped by La Soufrière volcano. Although the administrative capital, it's actually the second largest city in Guadeloupe behind Pointe-à-Pitre, considered the economic capital.
