Summer is still in full mode in Istanbul in September. Whilst it's a bit cooler and more pleasant than July & August, if you were to arrive here from the UK in September only, you feel like it's the middle of summer still. Temperatures are still in the mid-high 20's.

What should I pack for a holiday in Istanbul in September?
Light summer clothing is needed. Suncream and Swimwear if you plan to visit one of the islands or beaches in Istanbul where you can go swimming like the locals do to cool down.

What's great about Istanbul in September?
It's not as hot as the main summer months of July & August and towards the end of the month you can feel Summer is on its way out with cooler temperatures. The skies are mostly blue every day which is pleasant to see, and you can still visit the beaches and islands in Istanbul in September to have beach days as well as being on a city break. The crowds are less too once the kids go back to school in September compared to the summer months.

How warm is it in Istanbul during September?
The temperature reaches around 25℃ during the daytime in September, falling away to 21℃ at night. The UV index will be moderate at this time of year, so not something to worry about for the average person. However, if you're going to be outside for long periods it's worth wearing a broad spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen and UV-blocking sunglasses. Remember that bright surfaces, such as water and sand increase UV exposure.

On average, there will be 3 rainy days during the month, amounting to 58.6mm in total. That's broadly comparable with the amount of rain we see in England during the summer months, and would be considered dry. There's a small chance that you'll catch a thunderstorm during your trip.

You're unlikely to experience any strong winds. Expect a gentle breeze that increases to moderate at times during September. With moderate humidity and mild air temperatures, the breeze will have a slight cooling effect.
