Our guide to the weather in the United States during February
We've looked at the most up-to-date weather data for the United States, covering the last 12 years up to 2024, plus we've asked our team of travel bloggers for their first-hand experiences in order to answer the most frequently asked questions about the United States weather in February.
What's the temperature like in the United States during February?
It's cold in the United States during February. The temperature tops out at around 6℃ during the day, falling away to -3℃ at night. Brrrr! The UV index will be low at this time of year, so not something to worry about. However, if you're going to be outside for long periods it's always a good idea to apply a small amount of sunscreen to exposed skin.
Does it snow in the United States during February?
Yes, although it doesn't snow as much as you might expect. It's worth checking the local forecast a few days before you leave home so that you can pack appropriate footwear and clothing.
Does it rain in the United States during February?
On average, there will be 2 rainy days during the month, amounting to 46.9mm in total. That's broadly comparable with the amount of rain we see in England during the summer months, and would be considered dry. Of course, some of that rain will actually fall as sleet, snow, and possibly freezing rain. You're not likely to see a thunderstorm during your trip.
Is it windy in the United States during February?
You're unlikely to experience any strong winds. Expect a gentle breeze that increases to moderate at times during February. With moderate humidity, the wind will feel very cold, so you'll need to wear warm layers.
