Virgin Atlantic open new Edinburgh to Barbados route
Barbados has been a hot ticket destination since its addition to the green list on 30th June. Many airlines and tour operators have reported bookings up between 2 or 3 times the average.
Responding to this demand, Virgin Atlantic has just released tickets for its new twice-weekly Edinburgh to Barbados service. The first direct flights depart in December and run on Wednesdays and Sundays. They will be the only direct flights between Scotland and the Caribbean. The route will be serviced by Virgin's Airbus A330, meaning passengers can choose between Economy Classic, Economy Delight, Premium and Upper Class.
The direct flights are already showing bundled in Virgin Holiday deals to Barbados departing Edinburgh from January (we can't find any December availability), however, the return flight will require 1 stop at Heathrow with the last leg completed by BA.
Edinburgh Airport boss Gordon Dewar hailed the new services as "a fantastic boost." The addition of a new long-haul international service from Edinburgh is a key step in the Scottish travel industry’s bounce back from the coronavirus pandemic.
Other direct Virgin Atlantic routes from Scotland are planned, with twice-weekly Edinburgh to Orlando flights due to start in April 2022. These are in addition to Virgin's new Caribbean routes from Heathrow, including The Bahamas, St Lucia and Montego Bay Jamaica.
