The weather in Lanzarote in January can vary from year to year. I've been there in January and enjoyed warm sunny days but last year it was decidedly chilly and we had high winds on one day. Average temperatures at that time of year in Lanzarote are 17ºC -21ºC during the day dropping to 14º or lower at night.

What should I pack for a holiday in Lanzarote in January?
Packing for Lanzarote in January should see you wearing shorts, t-shirts, dresses and light shirts. A fleece or sweater is always a good idea because it gets chilly in the evenings. However, on our visit in January 2023 the weather was unseasonally cool and I regreted not taking a warm padded jacket. My denim jacket wasn't enough and I also ended up wearing jeans most of the time. Definitely pack some warm gear just in case, I wish I had!

What's great about Lanzarote in January?
Ordinarily, Lanzarote is a great place to visit in January for some winter sun and you'll find it warm enough for the beach. The island is just 60 km (37 miles) long and 25 km (16 miles) wide so it's ideal for exploring by car. We visited lots of the island's top sightseeing spots and the must-sees are the volcanoes at Timanfaya National Park, the Cesar Manrique houses and the lava tunnels. And don't forget to try the delicious Canary Island potatoes with hot spicy sauce while you're there!

What's the temperature like in Lanzarote during January?
The temperature is extremely stable in January with average highs of 19℃ and lows just 2℃ lower at 17℃. The UV index will be moderate at this time of year, so not something to worry about for the average person. However, if you're going to be outside for long periods it's worth wearing a broad spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen and UV-blocking sunglasses. Remember that bright surfaces, such as water and sand increase UV exposure.
Does it rain in Lanzarote during January?
On average, in January you'll see rain on just one day in the month. In other words, you shouldn't see any of the wet stuff. You're not likely to see a thunderstorm during your trip.

Expect moderate breeze becoming stronger at times during January, with occasional gusts up to 20mph. With moderate humidity and mild air temperatures, the breeze will have a slight cooling effect.
How warm is the sea in Lanzarote during January?
