Things you should know about Pisa in August

Pack the PJs A visit to Pisa in August is a real treat. Its not a huge town and so walking around it all is easy. It is however very hot and you should protect yourself from the sun. There is a huge carpark on the outskirts of the town and it is likely whether you arrive by coach or car that you will park there. On the way to the centre there are shops and market stalls for ice cream, coffee, souvenirs and restrooms. There are street vendors who will approach and try to sell you things but they are rarely persistent. Beware uneven pavements and kerbs as you can take a tumble and hurt yourself (like I did). Photography can be difficult because of all the people around and so take many shots to get the best ones. It is a crowded destination and it can be difficult to find shade to stand in. There are many cafes with seating where you can seek shade and ice cream. The McDonalds on the way from the carpark is a good place to seek the restroom, although you will have to pay. Pisa has a relatively small footprint and there will be plenty of time to see all the sights so don’t rush and make sure you have time for a coffee and a browse in the market. How warm is it in Pisa during August?

August is typically the hottest month in Pisa. The temperature hits about 30℃ during the day, falling away to a balmy 20℃ at night. The UV index will be high at this time of year, so protection against skin and eye damage is needed. Try to limit exposure between 10am and 4pm. Apply broad spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen every few hours, even if it's cloudy, or more frequently after sweating or swimming, and wear UV-blocking sunglasses too, and bear in mind that bright surfaces, such as sand and water increase UV exposure.

On average, there will be 2 rainy days during the month, amounting to 51.1mm in total. That's broadly comparable with the amount of rain we see in England during the summer months, and would be considered dry. There's a small chance that you'll catch a thunderstorm during your trip.
