Think no-one ever wins holiday competitions? Think again

If you follow our emails and social media posts you're probably aware that Travelscoop are usually running a travel competition of some description.

This week the team are working in Paris, and we drew the lucky winner of our Eurostar Paris competition yesterday outside the Eiffel Tower. You can check out the video here.

Our previous competitions have included a Barcelona Norwegian Air one, and one to Amsterdam on Eurostar. All of the videos of me picking the winners can be viewed on our website.

But there's more...

Aside from our own competitions, you may have also seen that we have a 'Travel Competitions' section on our website. This is a round-up of some of the UK's best free-to-enter, authentic travel competitions that are currently being offered by a variety of companies and websites. Currently, these include things as diverse as safaris in South Africa and Zimbabwe, Bali/SE Asia and Caribbean cruises, a couple of Disneyland Paris competitions, holidays to the Maldives, Argentina, India, New York, and Venice, an 11-day tour of the Canadian Rockies...and even a chance to win your very own beach bar for your garden!

And don't forget our Facebook group!

Many of our website competitions come from the huge array of brilliant travel competitions that are posted by the group members in our Travel Competitions UK Facebook group. Generally at least 10 new competitions a day get posted there. These prizes range from long exotic holidays in far-flung places, to city breaks and UK hotel stays, and sometimes travel-related goodies.

People really do win!

I'm sure that many of you will be a little cynical at first. I certainly was; until I started seeing the winners and reading the winning posts in our Facebook group, I questioned whether anybody actually won the vast majority of travel comps, even in spite of our own one being genuine. I also thought that maybe many were just a marketing ploy and my inbox would be filled up with emails I didn't necessarily want. Yes, this can happen to an extent, but you can definitely control it in various ways. And I'm now much more inclined to believe 'you have to be in it to win it'.

And there have already been loads of competition winners through our Facebook group.  Even as I sit typing this, one of our group members has updated the group with photos of her winning trip to Marwell Zoo. She won family tickets and an overnight stay, with dinner and breakfast.

Other recent group wins have included:

  • An all-expenses paid trip to Bilbao, with Florence + The Machine tickets.
  • A week's Lanzarote holiday for 4 with James Villa Holidays.
  • A trip to Budapest.
  • 2 tickets to Amsterdam with KLM.
  • 12 group members won runners-up prizes of 4 tickets each in a Ministry of Sound competition.
One group member has also recently won a fabulous 9-night national parks trip to Utah for two people, with return flights from London to Las Vegas, car rental, accommodation in seven different places, and a National Park Pass. Incredible. I'm more than a little envious!

Group member discussions have shown just how many people have won travel competitions over the course of time. Many would suggest it's a "numbers game": you have to enter loads and eventually one will succeed. But there have been people who've only entered one or two and still been lucky.

Although I haven't yet been lucky enough to win one myself, it's reading the posts of those who have that inspire me. Every time I enter a competition there's a half-daydream and a feeling of 'what if?'
