The many islands of Turks and Caicos

The Turks and Caicos Islands include a chain of 40 different islands and cays, but only 10 of these islands are actually inhabited. To experience the true beauty of the Turks and Caicos Islands, you should explore each island for its unique character.

Providenciales

Providenciales is the main island for visitors and tourists with its Turks and Caicos all inclusive resorts, restaurants, spas, shops and attractions. It’s ranked as one of the world’s best diving spots with world-class beaches. You can visit Grace Bay to see “Jo Jo”, the famous bottlenose dolphin at Princess Alexandra Marine Park, or venture to Chalk Sound to see plantation ruins and old stones engraved by shipwrecked sailors. For entertainment, check out the Casablanca Casino.

North Caicos

North Caicos, located 12 miles northeast of Provo, is full of Pink Flamingos, iguanas, plantation ruins and nature reserves. It’s a great place to go on a fishing or diving excursion or take a nature hike to see some of the old straw-work crafts that are still made here by the locals.

Middle Caicos

Middle Caicos, the largest island, is full of limestone cliffs that line the beaches and limestone caves with bats, stalactites and salt lakes that join the sea. You’ll also find artifacts and remains from the Lucayan Indians who once inhabited the island.

Grand Turk

Grand Turk is the Capital Island that offers a look at Caribbean history. Cockburn Town, the historical center, contains 18th century Colonial buildings and the Turks and Caicos National Museum where you can learn about the Molasses Reef Wreck of 1505, the oldest European shipwreck ever discovered in the Western Hemisphere. Just off Grand Turk, you can explore Gibbs Cay, an uninhabited island where stingrays swim up to shore.

Parrot Cay

Parrot Cay, a smaller island, is famous for its luxurious spas and resorts. As a popular and private vacation hideaway for Hollywood celebrities, Parrot Cay Resort and Spa has been called the world’s most exclusive resort.

No matter which island you explore, you’ll find a variety of activities, exciting places to explore and Turks and Caicos all-inclusive resorts. The Turks and Caicos Islands offers beauty and adventure that’s unmatched by other island destinations. Like most visitors, you’ll want to return again and again to this heavenly tropical paradise in the Caribbean.
