Top 5 things to do in Paris

Carrying on my research into the 5 European cities I may be visiting this summer, I thought I would look next at Paris, France. Sure everyone already knows about the Eiffel Tower and The Louvre, so I thought I would take a direct bus from Paris Orly Airport to Paris and look into some of the lesser-known attractions Paris has to offer. In case you missed it you can read my top 5 things to do in Budapest, Hungary here.

Centre Georges Pompidou

The Centre Pompidou named after Georges Pompidou has been called both an art gallery and a hub of culture. This amazing building, a fine example of High-tech architecture, houses a vast public library, a National Museum of Modern Art and also functions as a centre for music and acoustic research. It can be found in the Beaubourg area.

Piscine Josephine Baker

You probably shouldn’t swim in the Seine. But you can swim in the Piscine Josephine Baker. It is open during the summer months for your swimming pleasure. The 25-meter floating pool is nestled in a barge that is moored permanently on the river near the Bastille.

Montmartre Walk

For a more cultural view of the cities local colour, you can check out this neighbourhood full of peddlers and local talent. Located within the neighbourhood is the Montmartre Cemetery. Unlike other cemeteries, Montmartre is the final resting place of Degas and a few other famous souls that once lent their colour to the world.

Marais Shopping

This shopping district, once a marsh, is a shopping mecca for all things nice. From amazingly well-crafted stationery to fine knitwear, you will find plenty of goods to shop for. The Marais area has a long and colourful history.

Shakespeare and Company Book Shop

The shop, mentioned in Hemmingway’s memoirs, A Movable Feast, was originally opened by Sylvia Beach. It served many literary purposes including a boarding house for aspiring writers, a publisher and a library. Today it serves mostly as a used book store. While there, check out the restaurant Le Procope for a little of the Philosophes.

I hope you enjoyed my top 5 lesser-known things to do in Paris, France. If you have any recommendations for things that I should check it out in Paris then please let me know
