Croydon - City of Love? Hilarious Valentine's Day offer from easyHotel

Croydon: City of Love?

Sure, Croydon doesn’t seem an obvious first choice to spend a romantic evening with your significant other. But easyHotel could be about to change all that…

…or maybe not…

This Valentine’s Day, for just a £5 upgrade, the budget hotel chain are offering couples choosing to stay at their Croydon hotel the chance to transform their own room into a love nest. That’s right, a self-assembly pink and orange four-poster canopy to turn their bed into the ultimate passion pit. The sturdy structure, which folds out to form a four-poster structure, is topped with a vinyl pink canopy and orange chiffon-effect netting…complete with mosquito net! Obviously, to fend off all those pesky Croydon mozzies that might put a dampener on your evening!

As if that isn’t enough excitement for a loved-up couple, for another £3 the hotel will add some extra fizz. Quite literally. They’ll supply a bottle of Fanta, and a Terry’s Chocolate Orange. What more could you want?

Jorge Rodriguez, romantic experience coordinator at easyHotel, said: 'There's no beginning to the steps we will take to add extra romantic touches to our guests' experience at easyHotel.

'For £5, and with a little imagination and a bit of elbow grease, guests can transform their rooms into romantic havens. This, combined with the bedside bottle of bubbly, will no doubt be irresistible for some.’

The DIY four-poster feature is being tested for popularity purposes on a trial basis at the Croydon hotel. easyHotel claims, ‘Croydon, famed for its cultural life, parks, evocative street names and world-class cuisine, is often compared to Paris as a leading European romantic destination.’

So, a basic room from £19.99 a night, and £8 for all the romantic paraphernalia to make the night special, surely that’s Valentine’s sorted?

In 2017 the chain’s Old Street hotel were selling tourists a £1 a night upgrade for a fake window view of London mounted on a PVC board and attached to the wall with temporary adhesive strips, resembling an open window onto the city skyline. With plenty of “modest view window” rooms in their hotel, Rodriguez then claimed, ‘Why shell out a fortune [for a premium view from a top London hotel] when you could be spending your hard-earned cash on the experience of the city itself?'
