Christmas Markets

More than ever, it seems as though a Christmas market break has become a thing. People are adding it to their routines and traditions as a way of inducing that much sought-after festive feeling. And it works! What better way to visit a pretty European town or city than by wrapping up warmly and meandering leisurely around countless wooden chalets adorned in decorations galore, selling everything you can think of to do with the season?

Booking a Christmas market trip

It's Chriiiiiiiiiiistmmaaaaaaaaasss!! Well, no actually, it isn't. But if you could see my inbox - full up with countless snowy and festive wintery travel deals - you'd definitely think it was close. September is clearly the month for change: hazy sunshiney memories begin to take a backseat, superseded by thoughts of wintery getaways. With all this in mind, and added to the fact it's often more advantageous to beat the rush and book your Chrimbo break early, we're celebrating with a whole...

Booking a Christmas market break

With late summer daylight beginning to lose its battle with encroaching autumnal darkness, thoughts inevitably begin to turn to the “C” word. Yep, Christmas is fast approaching and, love it or loathe it, it eventually claims us all! While many people look to escape in search of some much-needed winter sun, more and more are attempting to kick-start a full-on festive feeling by booking a Christmas market break. Prague Christmas markets

Standing in the centre of Prague's Old Town Square market, I became aware that this was possibly the most "Christmassy" I've ever felt in my life. A stunningly beautiful city in its own right, it has an authenticity that's very likely to induce that fuzzy festive feeling. 1....

Salzburg's Christmas markets

Practically on the German border, Salzburg offers...

Christmas market trips to Cologne

It’s that time of year again – Christmas markets, festivals, and events are gearing up all over Europe. I simply love them – steaming mugs of mulled wine, twinkling lights brightening up the dark nights, hot food stalls, rosy cheeks and big smiles… it’s the one of the best things about winter! One of my favourite places to enjoy Christmas is in Cologne, Germany. Not only is it a wonderful city the rest of the year – with good restaurants, an excellent modern art museum, the...

Christmas market trips to Nuremberg

Last year about this time, I highlighted Christmas in Cologne as one of my wintertime favourites. This year I’ll mention another one of my top German Christmas Market hotspots: Nuremberg.Nuremberg is by many accounts the biggest and most popular Christmas markets in all of Germany. Set in the city’s main square, it is actually a few separate markets but like urban sprawl, the stands full of shiny toys, steaming mugs of mulled wine, and merchants serving up tasty dishes extends out down...
