About Halkidiki

Holidays to Halkidiki offer a refreshing change from the more popular Greek holiday islands, taking you to explore the country's mainland. This three-fingered peninsula juts out into the Aegean Sea from the north of the Greek mainland, and is a great option for those looking for a more laid-back atmosphere and some of the best scenery in the country. The westernmost peninsula, Kassandra, is the most popular of the three. Here, visitors tend to flock to the town of Hanioti, with its village square and evening markets, or to the purpose-built resort of Sani, which is fronted by a Blue Flag beach and a yacht-filled marina. For those seeking a livelier atmosphere, Kalithea is the place to be. Sithonia, the middle peninsula, is wilder and more rugged, and is perfect for those looking to enjoy the great outdoors. Secluded coves and virgin bays line the coast, and there are myriad walking trails inland. Finally, the easternmost peninsula, Mount Athos, is a monastic republic that is off limits to visitors, but can be admired from a boat trip around its shores.
