About Nuremberg

Nuremberg is a city with an abundance of character, despite the fact that 90% of it was destroyed in 1945. Its streets are lined with half-timbered pastel-tinted houses, and it has been painstakingly reconstructed using the original stone to reform almost all of its main buildings. One of the best times to visit is over the Christmas period, when the city's annual Christkindlesmarkt takes place in the Hauptmarkt, the central square in Nuremberg's old town. Here, visitors can sample spiced mulled wine, roasted almonds, chocolates, and hot sausages in crusty rolls. Despite its size, Nuremberg is easy to explore on foot, with its fortified city walls still intact. Be sure to make a beeline for the terracotta-topped Imperial Castle, where you can explore a number of Medieval buildings and enjoy stunning views of the city.
