Itinerary

Start your six-night Norwegian adventure in Oslo, the country’s charming and creative capital. You’ll never tire of sightseeing in this wondrously hip spot, and you could discover its very best features at your own pace - highlights include the Royal Palace and Parliament, which you can visit between multiple stops for coffee and fresh seafood specialities. You’ll more than enjoy kicking back at Thon Hotel Opera, set in an ideal location near the impressive opera house.

If you’re of the thinking that bigger is always better, then you’ll love what comes next as you make your way through pretty FlÃ¥m (so pretty, in fact, that FlÃ¥m Railway you'll travel aboard has been named one of the world's most beautiful train journeys) en route to the region of Sognefjord - at 204 kilometres long, this is the proverbial king of Norway’s fjords. Hosting on its shores since 1877, the family-run Kviknes Hotel in Balestrand offers a timeless base; it features a restaurant with a flair for locally sourced cuisine, an extensive wine cellar and plenty of balconies to take advantage of those breath-taking fjord views. While here, you’ll have the option of partaking in a full-day’s tour to Fjærland, where you’ll spot tiny towns tucked in amongst imposing glaciers.

You’ll move on to a two-night stay at Zander K Hotel in Bergen, a city on the southwestern coast, set against a spectacular mountainous background and surrounded by fjords. No place is quite as idyllic as this UNESCO World Heritage Site, probably best known for the colourful buildings and pointed rooftops along Hanseatic Wharf.

Travel diary: Two days in Oslo

20th January 2021 by Stuart

Norway. Vast pine forests, stunningly beautiful fjords, clear air and prosperous people. It's a winter wonderland and a summertime adventure playground. But if you're anything like me, Oslo has never featured especially highly on your 'bucket-list' (yes, I hate that phrase too!) As it turns out, that was exactly why I ended up choosing to go there! Let me take you back... Black Friday 2017: Ryanair (gulp!) - attempting to claw back a little dignity after their monumental flights cock-up...

Into the wilderness of Norway

9th April 2012 by HappyTimeBlog

What do you know about Norway? Their Viking heritage? Tall people, who look like they are bleached from head to toe? Aurora Borealis and the deep dark cold winters up north? Truth is that Norway is one of the most beautiful countries with postcard-worthy views of mountainous regions as well as fjords and glaciers hundreds of metres high which dot through valleys. The country also holds the title of having the happiest people in the world and when flights from London take just over two hours,...

The Scoop: Copenhagen

28th June 2023 by Stuart

Denmark and its capital hold the dubious honour of being touted as the happiest places on the planet. A 3-night break is a perfect amount of time to get to grips with the city and work out whether you agree. When to go? Pretty much any time from sunny, breezy spring through to hygge-inducing autumn and twinkly, tasteful Christmas. The largest crowds and the best festivals are in July and August, but this also brings the highest costs/rates. Temperatures rarely reach the mid-20s and so the...
