Flybe summer sale -- 20% off half a million seats

Budget airline Flybe have launched a "Spectacular Summer Sale", with 20% off half a million seats for travel between 8th May and 19th July 2018.

There are a few interesting things about Flybe that make this sale worth a look:

Firstly, the airline flies from more UK airports than any other airline and tends to fly to some of the more obscure European destinations. Before getting excited, check out their destination map here to see if they fly from an airport near you, and they fly to a destination you're interested in!

Secondly, you'll earn Avios when you fly with Flybe, which is a big plus for the Avios addicts among us (raises own hand). See their Avios page here for more details.

How to the sale fares compare with other airlines?

Does the sale actually mean you'll get a good deal? Of course, the fact that Flybe serve more regional airports than any other airline means that a direct comparison isn't always fair. It might be quicker and cheaper for me to get to (and park) at Southend Airport, for instance, than Gatwick, which would negate any small saving I could get flying from the larger airport. That said, let's try to find a few comparable flights:

London City to Amsterdam seems like it could be a popular route. Let's take a mid week jaunt to Amsterdam from 9th to 11th May 2018:

Flybe  (sale price) £64
BA £129
KLM £139

Flybe is clearly the cheapest option. That's great if London City is the easiest option for you, but if you can make it to Southend Airport, you'll get an EasyJet flight for £28.

Let's look at another example:

London Heathrow to Edinburgh. Let's take a long weekend break from 14th to 17th June 2018:

Flybe (sale price) £79
BA £100

Flybe is the cheaper option. In fact, even if you travel to London Luton, the cheapest fare is EasyJet at £92. Only by going to Stansted will you get a cheaper ticket, at £69 with Ryanair. If you're west of London, Flybe is the best option for those particular Edinburgh dates.

Verdict

It's all about convenience of airport with Flybe. If you're close to an airport they serve, then check the sale out as it offers genuine value. If you have a number of airports within striking distance (for example, Stansteda and Luton), then you'll probably pay less and have a wider choice in destinations with another carrier.

Book by 25th April 2018.
